So this is an article on Coleman Collins, the big man for Virginia Tech. He is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Hokies, who are off to a rough start of 0-2 in ACC play. However, they could very well upset North Carolina tonight in Blacksburg, their first home game in league play. The team only lost twice at home in conference last season, one of those being to the eventual National Champions. The Hokies have been wildly inconsistent this season; however, Collins has been dominant.
I saw VT play at Duke in the instant classis, half-court heave, Sean Dockery game back in December. The Hokies can play when they're on. Gordon and Dowdell are super quick at the guard spots and Washington is an athlete who can leap tall buildings. However, Collins is the best player overall on this team. He went toe-to-toe with Shelden Williams and put up around 22 points and 14 boards or so. Not bad against the "nation's best defender" (Williams is a good helpside defender, but man-to-man on a skilled big guy, he is only above average. Write it down). I proclaim Collins to be the most improved player in the ACC this season, and he was decent last year. I wish VT had a high enough profile to help him be recognized on the all-conference teams at season's end, as he deserves it.
This story linked above is a sad story, one many of us can relate to through the situations in our lives. I wish him and his family, especially his father, the best in this difficult time. Collins is the antithesis of fellow VT athlete Marcus Vick, as he truly represents himself and the school with class and dignity.
