Intro

I am starting a blog for a number of reasons. First of all, I am interested to see how my writing skills from college can be used while still being related to my interests. I have never had the opportunity to write about things I enjoy. Second, I just want to lay some stuff out there about sports, music, life, etc. And third, I figure you the reader could possibly be entertained. Marginally, at best, I admit, but entertained nonetheless.

I can guarantee you it will be boring sometimes. I am not giving sports opinions or discussing pop culture with the point of being controversial. It is irritating to read or listen to personalities on the major sports media outlets who clearly are out to just play devil’s advocate or gain attention for themselves. Instead of reporting or giving a fact-based and supported opinion, they take away from what they discuss by being outlandish. I think that qualifies as my first rant. As Marv Albert would say, “Yeeeeesssss.”

Also, I do not want you to view this as me feeling that I am right or know everything. I don’t know ANYTHING. What I write is my opinion; agree or disagree, but I will be honest if nothing else. Feel free to argue and present the other side. Chances are I will at least see your view, though I may not always agree. Fair enough?

Finally, I am not a journalist or a writer. Eventually, I would love to write a book sometime or a regular sports column of sorts, but I do not feel I have been given these abilities at this time. Maybe this is the first step towards such an occurrence, but more likely, it is just fun for a while. Therefore, my writing will be not good a lot. I do want to make it clear that my idea of a blog may be different from your’s. I could care less about telling everyone my feelings & emotions; if you know me, you know I do not do this all that much. I plan to utilize my first amendment rights fairly and seriously. Therefore, do not expect to read a play-by-play of my day or simply a summary of how I am feeling at the time. Instead, this hopefully will resemble a specific topical set of thoughts presented in a sensible fashion. Meaning, each blog/column could indeed have a thesis statement of sorts (did I just say that?) and should have a point. So there. Boo-yeah if you will.

So, with that out of the way, let’s chat. The blog is titled “The Blue Team” in tribute to the ole alma mater. The scrubs, who play only in mop-up duty on the men’s basketball team, are called the Blue Team. That’s kind of what I feel like; a Blue Team journalist. Ok, journalist is a stretch. Journalists typically research stats and facts, which I plan on doing as little of as possible. I just want to think and chat and predict and guess educationally if possible. So don’t hold that against me. But as a blue teamer, I strive to practice hard, make occasional great plays when it doesn’t really matter, and form a sort of cult following that in all honesty is making fun of my failure to be any good. And hey, if that happens, awesome. If no one reads, that’s ok too. I’m not in this for the glory; but then, what blue team member is?

If you’re actually still reading, I pity you. Go do your homework or play poker or watch TV (three if you have them). Or, ask yourself what I will be writing about and then read the answer. The answer is I am not sure. Sometimes it may be serious; usually it will involve sports, with occasional pop culturesque commentaries. If you know me, it will help to understand why I talk about the things I do. You will quickly learn my biases, but I promise to try and be as unbiased and objective as possible. Ok, I hate Barry Bonds and Jeffie Gordon. But otherwise, I am usually more critical of teams and players I like or pull for. Call it stupid, superstitious, or illogical, but it’s how I roll.

In conclusion, thanks for reading my intro post. It was a little long and probably boring, but I wanted to set things up for you, the reader. Any advice, requests, topic ideas, and tips are welcome. I humbly thank you for being interested and giving your time to read at least this one time. With that, I sign off with the random thought/catchphrase of this post:

All I need…is one more peesch

And the random song or lyric of this post:

“And if ya don’t know, now ya know, n----“

“Juicy” by Notorious B.I.G.

Peace
